To maintain optimum freshness, freshly roasted coffee should be purchased in small quantities sufficient for only one or two weeks. It should be stored in an airtight container in a dark cool place (pantry). Coffee loses aroma and becomes stale quickly when exposed to air. It can be placed in a freezer for long-term storage. Ideally, small quantities of coffee should be placed in individual airtight freezer bags, with as little air left inside the bag as possible. Once thawed, coffee should not be refrozen.

A cup is defined as 6 ounces of water before brewing. The Specialty Coffee Association of America defines 2 tablespoons (.36 oz) per cup as the proper measure for brewed coffee if using American standards.
When brewing a pot of coffee, generally one level tablespoon per cup is sufficient. However, this quantity is simply a starting point and should be increased or decreased according to personal taste.

Generally, coffee does not spoil, but it loses aroma with age and becomes stale. Oxygen speeds up the staling process. Ground coffee becomes stale faster than whole bean coffee. Depending on the type of packaging and how effectively it keeps out oxygen, coffee in an unopened package may still retain some of its original aroma and character even after 18 to 24 months. Zavida uses packaging materials with a high oxygen barrier rating.
Once opened, coffee loses its freshness within a few days and should be consumed quickly.

Zavida does not produce any instant coffee, it produces only gourmet whole bean and ground gourmet coffees. Our freshly roasted coffee must be prepared in a coffee brewer, e.g., percolator, drip, French press, or espresso to extract its flavour.

This disc is a one-way valve that allows carbon dioxide (C02) to escape, while preventing oxygen from entering the bag. C02 is released naturally by freshly roasted coffee and would rupture the package if not allowed to escape.
